ABOUT FESTIVAL KUK

Theatre, concerts, and playful activities for the youngest audiences. A series of events focused on children’s first introduction to art, supporting the development of their sensorimotor and movement skills.

KUK is the first Czech multi-genre festival primarily aimed at children aged 10 months to 3 years. Its goal is to offer families with young children a meaningful, high-quality program—an artistic, non-commercial alternative to conventional children’s entertainment, and an inspiring theatrical experience. The project follows the global trend of theatre for the very young and aims to introduce this concept to Czech audiences.

KUK takes place regularly in Prague (Vzlet, Hrabovka, KC Zahrada), in Pilsen (DEPO2015), and also in other cities.

The festival encourages parents to spend quality time with their children and seeks to connect families in each location, helping to reduce social isolation during parental leave.

All performances are language barrier-free.
The festival nurtures children’s imagination, introduces them to music and theatre, and naturally fosters a relationship with art.

Even the name KUK reflects a child's curiosity and desire to explore. The project contributes to cultivating the next generation of cultural audiences and promotes the perception of art and culture as an integral part of everyday life.

KUK
AND THEATRE

The genre of Theatre for the Very Early Years, popular abroad, takes a unique approach to its audience. It is not puppet theatre and does not aim to tell a story. Instead, it offers opportunities for play and the creation of atmosphere. These performances exist on the border between theatre and workshop.

They emphasize colors, sounds, music, textures, and other sensory experiences that captivate and support the development of young children. Short productions always involve the audience in the action. One of their major strengths is being language barrier-free, making them accessible and engaging for international visitors as well.

KUK
AND THE PLAYROOM

Most events also include an interactive playroom.

This is not a standard children’s corner — each play object is custom-designed, carved, sewn, and assembled with care by set designers, with a strong emphasis on aesthetics, safety, and the development of sensory perception.

The playroom offers a gentle, stimulating environment where children can explore at their own pace alongside their caregivers. It encourages free play and discovery, fostering harmony with the space, materials, and colors.

You might encounter a giant maze, an Indian village, oversized plants, a haptic carpet, or playful boards. Everything is designed to nurture the natural curiosity and sensory development of the youngest participants.

Please note: The playroom is always adapted to the specific venue, so not all objects may be included at every location.
